  Biggest News Ever!!!
I KNOW WHY THE SVT FOCUS IS NO MORE!!!!!!

I work at a hotel and I have had alot of FORD reps stay here, well I met the people who are the top dogs of the powertrain depo. I asked why the SVT was not being produced anymore they said b/c of warranty, he said of course any SVT product is gonna be abused the Focus more than anything so b/c the SVT focus has come back for so much warranty work FORD was losing money and could not keep producing a car that was costing more than it was bringing in.

Hmmmm. I know that Ford had a buy-back on '02 svtf's. I don't hear of too many problems with the '04's..as far as my year, I've only heard of tranny problems to be the big issue of reliability. I know mine went in twice for the tranny. But I think That's only part of the reason. The Focus also had an engine and appearnace change as well for '05, as well as a new assembly plant. That's why the cobra is taking so long to come back. New body and engine changes takes time and money to research to make new stuff. The Focus went from 2.0 zetec to Duratec's. Even if svt comes back with one, it'll be a long time. they are stuck on the whole cobra thing right now.

thats a dumb reason to disc the SVT...they should of taken it as a learning lesson and put more effort to building the next SVT.

doubt it because i read in motortrend in an article how they said that the svt focus had the biggest potential out of all the svt's but they werent selling as good as they thought. the 06 svt mustang will be out soon enough though, then hopefully a focus again

i agree. learning from mistakes is the best way to go, and they wouldn't make them again. simple solution for a simple problem

Hmm... I believe it. I should gather all my dealer invoices and estimate how much it would have cost me to do all the things they have done under warranty. It would easily be in the thousands, I know that.

I can see Ford killing the car to limit the number of them out there, and thus limit the number of them returning to the dealer for warranty work. How I feel right now, is that it was a good idea that was rushed to market with poor design and manufacture. They worked out some of the bugs for 03 and 04, but I can easily see them realizing the car had too many flaws to fix, so rather than spend more money on developing a new model, they just killed the existing model to "stem the flow" so to speak.

Its not that the SVT was built poorly its that there were too many cases of abuse that was being called on under warranty, the SVT focus was a affordable sports car and the people who bought it were mainly high risk drivers who abused them I am not saying I agree with the stop of the SVT and I am not saying all SVT owners are ignorant drivers this is just the result of making a cheap fast car.

Okay, you can "not say it," but I will... the SVT was built poorly. Engineered poorly. It did well on road tests for magazines but it ain't doin' so well in real life ownership. My SVT has probably cost them a fair amount in warranty work and warranty rental cars, and I'm not a 16-year-old with a fresh license and a desire to race every car I see. True, those kids who beat the hell out of their cars and then get new engines and new transmissions are costing them more, but even "average" owners are making more warranty claims than should be normal.

And, actually, why not discontinue a car giving them so much trouble? Between the general crappiness of the car and as you mentioned, the number of owners beating on their car and then getting it fixed under warranty, it's a sound business decision to just shut the whole thing down. If you were bleeding and it wouldn't stop, wouldn't you try to find a way to stop the bleeding before it killed you?

I see your point and like I said this is the result of a cheap fast car. So maybe the SVT was poorly built I dont know I never driven one or known anyone who has one, but I would explore ALL options to try to stop the bleeding before amputation ever entered my mind.

Along with all the warranty problems as people have mentioned, another reason as hky said above here is that Ford was having a real problem selling the SVT. You can ask almost all the SVT owners and they will say "oh I got it new for less than invoice". I tried real hard to get an SVT from a dealer around here and even told them in negotiations that "you guys are gonna have a real hard time selling this car". They snubbed me and still tried to sell it to me at $21,000 as the lowest they could go. 2 months later I get a call from the dealer asking if I was still interested. It is sad to see 03 SVT's still at the dealerships around here when it is January of 2005.

You know, it could've been it is just an overrated, underachieving Mustang wanna-be.

Yes, my sig says I drive an SPI. So what, wanna go? I bet you'll be suprised. Yes, it's an automatic SPI sedan. No, it's nowhere near stock. Get over yourself.

You obviously have never driven an svtf, I've driven an SPI and the difference is night and day. Go drive the car before you put in your $.02. Oh by the way this is what you get with an svtf;

Variable Cam Timing & Dual-stage Inlet System
Compression 10.2:1
Horsepower 170 hp @ 7000 rpm
Torque 145 lb.-ft @ 5500 rpm (85% torque @ 2200 rpm)
Intake Valve Dia 33.5 mm
Intake Port Area increased
Exhaust Valve Dia 28 mm
Exhaust System 4-into-2-into-1
Exhaust Pipe 58 mm (2.28 in.)
Exhaust Tip 75 mm (2.95 in.) Chrome
Transaxle 6-speed manual
Clutch Hydraulic actuation with Dual Mass Flywheel
Driveshafts Solid (13% greater torque capacity)

Chassis
Spring Rate F/R 129 lb./in. (22.5 N/mm) / 157 lb./in. (27.5 N/mm)
Dampers F/R Increased Low-speed damping. Decreased High-speed clamping
Anti-roll bars F/R 21 mm/21 mm
Tires P215 45 R17 (Z-rated)
Wheels 17" SVT 5-spoke alloy
Steering Power rack and pinion with tuned boost curve
Brake System 4-wheel disc w/ ABS
Brakes - front 300 mm vented rotor
Brakes - rear 280 mm Solid Rotor
Traction Control

Exterior
Fascia Unique honeycomb grill & round fog lamps
Headlights Grey bezel surround under lens
Moldings Body color bodyside and rocker
Door Handles Body Color
Mirrors Body Color, power, break-away, heated Rear Spoiler
Rear Spoiler Unique body color

Interior
side impact and front airbags (4)
Oil temp and pressure guages
Instrument Cluster Titamium-color electric-luminescent faces w/160 mph speedo
Front Seats Leather with woven color-keyed cloth insert. Heated.
Rear Seats Added 60/40 split flip up bottom and center head rest

Gear Shift Aluminum knob with leather accents
Parking Brake Leather wrapped with satin aluminum release button
Power sunroof
Audiophile 6-disc in-dash CD changer w/ 8" subwoofer & amplifier 290watts peak power & steering-mounted audio control

I'm not bashing the spi, I personally like all foci but I get a little pissed off when people say that you could build your own svt equivalent easily.
